Subject: DOJ vs. Apple Case - Does It Affect Self-Published Authors? E-book Revolution Newsletter

Dear Friend,
We’re into the second half of the year and I hope all your e-book goals are on track! A lot’s happened in the publishing world since my last email, so let’s drop into the fray with some great tips and information for you to use in the second half of 2013.

***Contracts & Legal Know-how For Self-Published Authors***

When you are trading in ideas, creativity and intellectual property, the legal waters can get murky, as many writers have had the misfortune to find out. Whether you are traditionally published, accepting the terms and conditions of self-publishing platforms like Amazon, Kobo or iBooks, or a self-published author about to sign your first traditional publishing deal, you need to have some understanding of what a fair contract looks like and what rights you should (or shouldn’t) be giving away.

In this podcast we delve into the world of contracts and agenting, but I promise you, we avoid jargon, incomprehensive phrases and snore worthy discussions like the plague. I’m a simple girl, I prefer to learn from experts I can understand and actually stay awake with, and I’m sure you’d prefer that too!

***Ever Wanted To Take Part In Your Favourite Author’s Story?***

Do you remember the old Choose Your Own Adventure books? How would you like to do one in real life? For those of you who don't know, I’m taking part in a new collaborative writing project where myself and some other fantastic genre writers are writing Choose Your Own Adventures that you can do in real life! Not only will you actually get to stand where the story is happening but you can dictate what happens next, while you explore the weird and wonderful features of a new (or old!) city.

Authors who will be writing the stories include award-winning fantasy author Isobelle Carmody, NY Times bestselling author Sean Williams, Doctor Who writer Robert Shearman and a dozen more! But we need your help to get this project off the ground. To do this we have set up a crowdfunding page for our project http://pozible.com/chooseadventure. If you don’t know what crowdfunding is, it’s all explained on the page. But one thing to keep in mind is it involves rewards and they are amazing, including everything from signed books to Skype conversations with the authors.

***Who Knew Print Books Were Still Important?***

I had a bit of an epiphany a month ago: people like print books, even though the topic is about something completely digital. A lot of you may be saying ‘duh’ but I’m hoping you e-book authors out there kind of get where I’m coming from. In this blog post I explore why I’ve moved to make my e-books POD (print on demand, physical copies), when it might be appropriate for you to do this for your own works and how you can do it while avoiding all the mistakes I’ve run into!

***The DOJ Vs. Apple Case***
Confused about what the repercussions of the US Department of Justice’s case against Apple might be for you as an indie author? Join if:book’s Simon Groth and myself for the new future of the book podcast where we discuss what this whole court case was about as well as other awesome if:book projects.
