I've struggled with impostor syndrome since I was a teenager (meaning: well over 35 years).
And although I used to struggle with it mightily, I'm now ok with it. Even though I sometimes STILL feel like an impostor.
You know why I’m ok with it?
Feeling like an impostor is normal when learning - or doing - something new, different and/or challenging (which happens to be when it typically shows up).
Accepting - even embracing this - has allowed me to be okay with not knowing the answer to everything asked of me or feeling like I’m supposed to have it all figured out.
What about you, Friend? Do you sometimes feel like an impostor, too?
Remind yourself that it’s likely because you’re stretching yourself.
Which is actually a good thing. Life would be boring otherwise. You would stagnate.
And note...
The most successful lawyers I know also struggle with impostor syndrome – they've just learned to recognize it as a growth signal rather than a stop sign.
Instead of worrying about how you feel, embrace what it means (growth + learning).
