Subject: What does freedom mean to you?

Yesterday was July 4th here in the United States, where we celebrate FREEDOM. Freedom is a value many hold dear. But it comes with a price...

With freedom comes discomfort.

And choice.

Which means responsibility.

Sometimes, it's actually easier to not have it.

And also, FREEDOM can clash with other values (you may hold dear) such as equity and security. It also depends on how you define what freedom means to you.

Almost all of our social/political disagreements relate to our values (many of them directly resulting from how we define and value FREEDOM).

Want society to be better, the world to be better? Seek to understand other people's values, how they define them and how they integrate with yours.

This is your starting point. Which is why I'm here today to ask you some questions about this particular value:

  • What does freedom mean to you?

  • How important is this value within your life (and how does it alter your perception of what's right/wrong)?

  • How might other values compete with freedom?

To learn more (and why I value freedom over other values such as equity), listen to this week's (short) Life & Law Podcast >>>here.

XO,

Heather

P.S. Yes, I'm a day late sending this to you. I take my holiday’s seriously and know you were likely already inundated with enough emails yesterday in "celebration" of July 4th (probably trying to sell something).
