Subject: Two very different subjects, one commonality

What do legal marketing and self-care have in common?

Nope, this isn't a trick question.

Although I realize that legal marketing and self-care are two very different topics, there is one thing that's true for both...

Your approach to it - your mindset - impacts your results.

This is true for just about anything you do in life.

Because if you dread doing the thing, whether it is marketing, networking, working out, cooking a healthy meal, taking time to meditate or something else entirely...

…How often do you think you’ll do it?

…What type of energy will you bring to it?

…What results will you likely get out of it?

The wrong mentality can sabotage you before ever getting started.

The good news is that you can make anything more enjoyable. Maybe even fun.

Which means you don't have to dread it.

How?

Anytime you find yourself dreading doing something (or just feeling a negative energy around it), ask yourself:

  • How could I make this more enjoyable?

  • How could I do this differently to get the same or a similar result?

Get creative in your answers.

Because (as discussed in a self-care discussion I led last week) you can:

  • Choose to go for a walk, play outside with your kids or go for a bike ride (instead of killing yourself in an aerobics class you hate).

  • Add your favorite cheese or even a couple of diced strawberries to make your salad more enjoyable.

  • Choose to take a moment of mindfulness as you fold laundry (gifting yourself a moment of silence every time you do the laundry).

And if you're a lawyer (or other professional) who must market you services, you can find ways to leverage your strengths in ways you actually enjoy instead of just following what everyone else does.

Take this further by listening to this week’s Life & Law Podcast, which is all about your marketing mindset.

Not a lawyer or don't need to market? Listen anyway, Friend, because the discussion is applicable anything you do in life.
