Walking into my office (while gently closing the door behind him), he said "Heather, can we talk?"
My heart rate increased. Everything slowed down. [It sounded ominous, and so I readied myself for the blow to come].
That's when he asked if I'd be interested in serving as office managing partner.
For real? I'd looooong dreamed of getting an opportunity like this.
And yet I said no. 🤔
I was flattered (who wouldn't be?). But I'd only been a shareholder for a couple of years and was working hard to grow my practice after it had been decimated by the 2008 financial crisis.
More importantly, my husband and I had worked hard to figure out how to juggle our dual-careers with young kids. This could really mess that up.
Although part of me couldn't believe it, I knew that I was making the right choice.
- Fully informed.
- With intention.
- Aligned with my values.
I don't know if it would have ever gone anywhere (I'm certain that several others were asked the same question). But I'd be lying if I said that making this decision wasn't difficult.
A couple of years later, while watching a rock-star female partner climb the firm management ladder, I couldn't help but think. . . what am I missing out on?
Has this ever been you? Thought so.
But that thought didn't last long for me because I remembered all the reasons why I'd made the right choice.
And I want that for you too, Friend.
- 3 key mindset shifts for making decisions you’re content with (so that you can stop feeling like you’re missing out).
- A 5-step decision-making framework for determining what’s right for you (no matter the circumstances).

Today's Podcast will empower you to make tough decisions that you'll look back on and say. . . "I made the right choice."
