Subject: Hard is actually the norm

We humans love to chase what feels easy. But most of the time, what we choose isn’t easier (it just means less work in the moment with a bigger downside later on).

For example…

Losing weight is hard.

Not losing weight (you're told you need to lose) is hard, too.

Building your own book of business is hard.

Being a service partner (reliant on others) is hard, too.

Starting your own law firm is hard.

Being an employee in someone else’s law firm is hard, too.

They are different yet all hard.

Which is life.

This reminds me of something a client (Virginia) said to me as we were wrapping up our work together:

“I’ve learned that everyone has to make trade-offs - that is life. And it is on me to decide what to prioritize and what to let go of. The key is to be intentional.”

When your brain wants to avoid hard work, especially the work that can help get you to a different place or make a change you want, time to get real.

List all options available, and ask what the upside AND downside of each option is.

That will enable you to be more intentional in choosing the right hard for you.

XO,

Heather
