Your mind - and how it works - is both wondrous and terrifying.
Wondrous because of its ability to store memories, remember habits, process information quickly (without you even being aware of it), and keep you safe.
Yet also terrifying because its self-preservation mechanism is what leads your brain to:
Fit new information into a pattern consistent with your beliefs and self-identity.
Overthink decisions (and then second-guess them).
Fear change (because it feels so vulnerable).
Which holds you back because that's what also stifles growth, increases stress, inhibits you from learning and prevents you from doing things that could make life better.
The good news is that you have a choice.
Because you can be intentional about how you process new information - not forcing it into a predetermined pattern and proactively reconsidering beliefs.
And you can challenge your brain's tendency to proffer up untruths and half-truths intended to stop you from even considering a change.
You can also choose to do the thing that feels scary anyway.
To be clear, this doesn’t mean you won’t still grapple with (or fall prey to) any or all of the above. You will (because you're human).
But being more intentional in this way is key to living a happy, fulfilled life. And it's worth it.
What will you choose, Friend?
XO,
Heather
