Subject: Are you curious enough?

"Heather, I'm bored." [Said a (very) successful friend just a few weeks ago].

When I asked why not do something different, he gave me all the usual excuses...
  • He's invested too much time, energy and money.
  • He'll be able to retire in about 10 years.
  • People will think he's crazy to walk away from such a lucrative career.
  • What else would he do?
I challenged him on these erroneous beliefs, of course. But he admitted that he's trapped by golden handcuffs, unwilling to consider doing anything else.

This isn't the first time I've heard from someone who's bored despite their seemingly lucrative career. I hear this a LOT from attorneys. But I doubt it's a lawyer-only phenomenon.

Do something long enough and it's easy to see how you might end up feeling bored while just going through the motions.

The good news is that my friend has one more option... Get more curious.

Remember peppering your parents with questions as a child? [Or have a child of your own doing that to you now?]

Why? Why not? How come?

Which are exhausting to answer, and so often discouraged. Over time, we're taught NOT to ask so many questions.

But your inner curiosity can be reignited, Friend. Learn how in the latest episode of the Life & Law Podcast.

The truth is that we can all be more curious. So, don't make the mistake of not listening to today's Podcast because you're not currently bored.

Besides, fostering more curiosity won't just make life less boring. It will make you more innovative, increasing your ability to effectively handle change and uncertainty. Something the last few years has reminded us is a constant.

XO,

Heather
