Subject: #1 Daily Habit For Happiness

In the fetal position, clutching my stomach in pain I heard my son Noah laugh. And I actually smiled.

It was June 2012. Even though I only had 1 chemotherapy treatment left I was seriously considering NOT going (the pain didn't feel like it was worth it).

Until I heard that laugh. [It wasn't just any laugh but the joyous belly laugh of a 2-year old].

That moment reminded me of all that was good in my life, convincing me to push through my last treatment.

There's a reason I was able to notice Noah's laugh, Friend.

Thanks to a simple habit that I adopted about one month after my breast cancer diagnosis, my brain was trained to notice life's simple pleasures.

Like the smell of jasmine tea (one of the few scents that didn't make my stomach turn). The caress of warm water on my skin during my morning shower. And the belly laugh of a toddler.

What practice am I talking about?

Gratitude.

Practicing gratitude changes your brain. It makes you more resilient, increases positive feelings and makes you happier.

Even when life isn't going so well.

And since it's Thanksgiving week here in the U.S., I'm spilling all the details around how it works (including my own story) in this week's Life & Law Podcast.
