When you think of great copywriters like Dan Kennedy and Gary Halbert, you probably think of them as being natural born writers.
In fact, that's what most people think when they see the big names.
And to be honest, that's fair enough.
You're not going to be successful as a copywriter if you're writing sucks.
But there's one trait that will set you apart in copywriting.
And 90% of new people entering the market don't have it.
You see, most newbie copywriters are looking for two things.
Lots of money...
In a very short time period.
They've seen other gurus make $10k a month and believe they can do the same.
But here's what they're not seeing.
The guru worked for 5 years before achieving that milestone.
They have connections who can set them up with clients.
They already have experience in marketing and sales.
And they probably had one $10k month before calling themselves a "6 figure copywriter".
If you're completely new with none of the above, your chances of hitting $10k a month in your first year are pretty much 0.1%.
Now, this might sound like bad news, but it's actually an opportunity.
Because this is where most writers fall short.
After working for a few months and not hitting their targets, writers will start to drop off.
And this happens at an exceedingly fast rate.
Over the last year alone 90% of the copywriters I've seen on social media have quit.
Here's why.
Copywriting isn't easy.
It isn't like other industries where you can hide your results.
Your copy either converts or it doesn't.
And sometimes, that can feel like a punch in the gut.
In fact, during your first year, it will most of the time.
But this is where this trait can make or break you.
The trait?
Patience.
Are you willing to work for low prices for 2 years?
Are you willing to get difficult feedback from mentors?
Are you willing to study every night and not fully understand everything?
If you can be patient and trust the process, you're already 10 steps ahead of the market.
What most people don't see with the worlds best copywriters is they worked on their craft for decades.
They make it look easy because they've done it for so long.
So, if you're new to copywriting or you've been doing it for a few years, don't give up.
You will get results if you can keep turning up.
That's the hardest part.
Have a great week,
Copy "be patient" Maverick
