Subject: The no.1 mistake I see copywriters make

And why it could lose you a project

Over the past six months I've worked with over 20 copywriters.

Some have been amazing and others still have a lot of work to do.

But one common trend I noticed is this:

Most writers can't tailor their writing to the client's tone.

You see, most copywriters build their own writing habits and tone.

This is a good thing, as it can help you stand out within a certain market.

However, you need to know how to change your tone for different clients.

If you can't do this, you're going to get stuck.

But here's the thing...

It's not actually that hard to do.

You just need to be willing to put in the initial research.

When you first land a client (or are writing a sample for them) you want to deep dive into everything they have.

  • Emails

  • Website

  • Reviews

  • Social media posts

Any content they've already written, you want to read.

Use this to create a small swipe file of their best-performing content and you have everything you need to get started.

Each time you write, revert back to what the client has said in the past.

Every time you edit, ask yourself if this is in your client's tone.

And before you submit, ask if this sounds like it was written by you or the client.

If it doesn't, it's time to make edits.

This is such a simple activity, but over 90% of the writers I've worked with have overlooked it.

Instead, they use their own tone, and it sounds completely off.

The result?

They lose the project.

So, instead of being just another generic copywriter, go out of your way to impress your clients.

You'd be surprised how easy it is to stand out.

Have a great week,
