Friend,
I recently started listening to David Goggin's latest book "Never Finished".
In case you didn't know who he is, David Goggins is an ex navy seal, ultra marathon runner, and holds the world record for the most pull-ups completed in 17 hours (it's 4030 in case you were wondering).
I'd highly recommend looking him up if you need some motivation.
Anyway, in the book Goggins' touches on the concept of an alter ego.
In his mind, he has two personalities.
"David" who represents his weak mindset and his "inner bi***".
And "Goggins", who represents the guy who never backs down.
When the going gets tough, Goggins uses this alter ego to push himself to new limits.
However, he's not the only person who does this.
Kobe Bryant famously created his "Black Mamba" alter ego to separate his unbeatable work ethic from his family life.
Eminem created his "Slim Shady" alter ego to distinguish himself in the rap world and deal with the trauma of his upbringing.
David Bowie created his "Ziggy Stardust" alter ego to help shape his music career in an ever changing pop industry.
What's fascinating about this is these people literally created a new personality to achieve their goals.
They left behind old limiting beliefs and pushed the boundaries of normality to achieve greatness.
You can see this in the business world too.
Think of Gary Vee, Steven Bartlett, Grant Cardone.
All these entrepreneurs let go of past trauma to build business empires.
And in the process built alter egos for the world to see.
Now, I'm far from an expert on this topic, though I plan to do a lot of research into it over the next few weeks.
But if you're constantly struggling with procrastination, work ethic or other mental setbacks...
Then creating an alter ego might be a good option.
Picture who you want to be.
Their habits, lifestyle, daily activities.
Every time you go to do something ask yourself if your alter ego would do the same thing.
You could use this to correct bad habits and break out of your current thinking patterns.
I'll be looking into this in greater detail over the next few weeks to explore the psychology behind it.
But I would love to hear if you have any insights or have looked into this before.
Have a great week,
