Comprendiendo qué es HIPAA: Lo que Deben Saber los Padres sobre la Privacidad & la Información de Salud de sus Hijos Adultos

El CoE-PHI se ha asociado con National Latino Behavioral Health Association (Asociación Nacional Latina de Salud del Comportamiento), y National Hispanic and Latino ATTC y PTTC (Centro Nacional Hispano y Latino de Transferencia de Tecnología para la Adicción) para elaborar una versión en idioma español de este documento, que responde las preguntas más frecuentes (PF) sobre cuándo los padres pueden acceder a la información de salud protegida de sus hijos adultos.

La Ley de Transferencia y Responsabilidad de Seguro Médico de 1996 (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA por sus siglas en inglés) es una ley federal que establece estándares nacionales de privacidad que limitan el uso y la divulgación de la información de salud de las personas (conocida como “información de salud protegida” o “PHI” por sus siglas en inglés).
Cuando su hijo llega a la adultez, tanto sus derechos como los derechos de su hijo cambian bajo HIPAA.

New CoE-PHI Spanish Language Resource Available:

Understanding HIPAA: What Parents Need to Know About Privacy & Their Adult Child's Health Information

The CoE-PHI has partnered with the National Latino Behavioral Health Association and the National Hispanic and Latino ATTC and PTTC to develop a Spanish Language resource that answers frequently asked questions (FAQs) about when parents can access their adult child's protected health information.

Key Points From This Resource:

The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 ("HIPAA") is a federal law that sets national privacy standards limiting the use and disclosure of individuals' health information (known as "protected health information" or "PHI").
As your child grows into adulthood, both your rights and the rights of your child under HIPAA change.
HIPAA sets limits and conditions on when and what information healthcare providers may disclose about your adult child.
