Navigating SUD Privacy for Individuals in Treatment and Involved in the Child Welfare System

Join the CoE-PHI and NASADAD for a virtual training about the federal privacy laws for substance use disorder treatment records, and common issues that arise when working with individuals who are involved in the child welfare system.


Target Audience: Single State Agency leaders for alcohol and drugs, including SSA Directors, Treatment Coordinators, Women's Service Coordinators, and others.

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify major privacy issues that arise for individuals in SUD treatment when involved in the child welfare system.

  • Understand how the federal SUD privacy law protects individuals and permits sharing information for mandated reports, testimony, and inter-agency data sharing.

  • Recognize how to apply the federal SUD privacy law and regulations at 42 CFR Part 2 in case studies representing common scenarios for SUD treatment providers and child welfare agencies.
