Organizations shift away from Oracle Java as pricing changes bite


According to a recent survey conducted by Azul Systems, organizations are moving some or all of their Java use away from Oracle Java, citing costs and Oracle's change from a per-usage to a per-employee fee structure. Switchers are reporting mostly successful results.


The recent trend isn't new. Oracle's portion of the Java Development Kit (JDK) usage has steadily decreased over the years, dropping from approximately 75% of the JDK distribution market in 2020 to 42% in 2023.
