July Update - More Tricks of the Trade

Hi ,

Here is a July update for members of RMSEO.

A series of videos (in 2 parts) is now ready on getting YouTube traffic to your websites. Even better, this series not only covers using YouTube but also covers using YouTube with "Social Signals". Now that's "stealth mode" free traffic just waiting for you to take advantage of it.

Part 1 covers:

  • Video Marketing using Social Signal
  • YouTube Video Settings
  • Keyword Research
  • LSI Keyword research
  • How to Edit Your File and Upload It

Part 2 will go over:

  • Editing Title, Description and Tags
  • Transcribing Audio
  • Adding Transcription Captions
  • Social Signals
  • Social YouTube Likes and Traffic

So you can see you will get the SEO story along with the "How To".

Cauton: It will be stressed in the videos to be careful when using YouTube...but I will say it again..."Don't post sales type videos!" You can link back to your website for that. YouTube (owned by Google) can shut you down and ban you if you do. The last thing we want to do is make Google unhappy with us.

WordPress Updates: A quick note on this. People ask me if they should be doing WordPress updates. The answer is... If you are hosting with us then no. This will be taken care of for you. It is part of the full service hosting that we offer those clients that we build websites for. Of course, since it is your site, I really can't say no if you want to. For those of you hosting with us who would like to and for those of you who are members of RMSEO but not hosting with us, I will outline the process:

  1. Look at the developer notes in the plugin section that outlines what was updated so you know what to expect. (This functionality may not even pertain to your site)
  2. Backup your entire website. This means the databases and all of the website files. The databases can be backed up using Cpanel and the website files can be backed up using an FTP program.
  3. Test the update and look at each page's appearance including your blog, if you are using one, and test any functionality that is built into your site to see if anything has changed or has broken. This can be particularly troublesome for those of you with Ecommerce sites.
  4. If all is well, then you're good to go. If not then you must restore your databases and website files using the backup that you made before the update.

Or

Let us do it, since we are doing this anyway for all hosting customers.

Keep in mind that WordPress components are developed and coded by many different developers. Due to this, some plugins may not be compatible with your themes, other plugins or even WordPress core code if some bad coding slipped through the cracks with the update. During the development of your website by Gr8Design and RMSEO all efforts are made to ensure that upon delivery everything is compatible with everything.

Since I know that quite a few of you are using your Blogs to generate traffic, I'm working on a guide for this. Keeping up a blog can be a daunting task for an individual but it doesn't have to be. More Tricks of the Trade on that topic in my next follow up.

To your success,
Russ Morgan
