Dear Friends,
Just as the excitement of fall and change of the season is upon us, City Youth Now is turning a new leaf. We are excited to welcome our new Program and Administrative Manager and Program Coordinator, who are both full of talent and committed to making CYN an even more successful organization in the coming years.
Over the last few months, our new staff has been busy enhancing our programs. As of October, 21 youth have participated in the Youth Partnering for Education and Employment Internship Program, completing an impressive 1755 hours. During the back-to-school season, our Personal Empowerment Program has equipped 50 youth with backpacks and school supplies. We are also excited to announce that we are in the process of creating a short documentary with one of our 2016 Scholarship recipients, which we look forward to sharing with you in the future.
We are also thrilled to welcome our newest Board Member and recently elected Vice President, Mr. Bill Johnston, a veteran civil servant who has dedicated over 40 years to helping youth through the SF Juvenile Probation Department.
As you know, we have decided to postpone the Gala due to the fact that the last event was a net-net drain on City Youth Now financially. The Board, as well as our new Development Board, are organizing a series of smaller fundraising events as we work to plan a fiscally responsible Gala for the upcoming year. Lastly, in addition to our traditional fundraising campaigns, our team is organizing a corporate sponsor campaign. We look forward to sharing details as we finalize our outreach and event details. We hope to see you all at our upcoming events!
With deep appreciation of your continued support, Didier G. Perez President

As a recent graduate of Saint Mary’s College of California with a B.A. in Sociology and a Women and Gender Studies minor, she has developed a passion for helping others overcome oppressive obstacles to reach their full potential. She has pursued this goal through her continuous leadership within the Student Life Department and the Associated Students at Saint Mary's. Inside the Juvenile Justice Center |
|
| For decades, City Youth Now has partnered with Bread & Roses to bring uplifting and motivational performers to the JJC. |
| Matt JaffeSinger-songwriter Matt Jaffe performed for the youth at the Juvenile Justice Center (JJC) on August 17th. He engaged the audience with relatable lyrics, a question-and-answer time, and song requests.
RoAn Gibson Music Professional Looper and song-writer, Robert Andrew Gibson (RoAn) performed for the youth at JJC on October 17th. Through his mix of beat-boxing, guitar, singing, and looping, RoAn encouraged the youth to tap into their creative side. Three youth from the JJC volunteered to perform their own pieces as their peers cheered them on from their seats. Performances such as RoAn's provide the youth in the center with inspiration and an outlet to express themselves. |

| Olympic Club vs. JJC On Wednesday, November 8th an Olympic Club Recreational Team challenged the Juvenile Justice Center Boys Team to a nail-biting basketball game. Both teams played extremely well, with impressive rebounding and even a few long range 3-pointers from the JJC Team. Ultimately, the JJC Boys' Team drew the lead with a 1-point win over the Olympic Club. The game was followed by a pizza party reception where the JJC Team Captains handed out two "Player of the Game" recognition awards to the Olympic Team Players. We look forward to hosting more games with the Olympic Club recreational teams!

USF vs. JJC
On Friday, September 8th the youth at the Juvenile Justice Center played an exciting basketball game against the University of San Francisco Dons. The game was followed by a pizza party, which provided the youth with an opportunity to mingle with players from the USF team. Many of the youth regularly play basketball and really enjoyed speaking with Division I team staff. The CYN staff and board members also had the opportunity to speak with the youth and learn more about their experiences. |
