| Dear Friends, Last year brought many changes to City Youth Now, and we are excited to share our successes with you through our Spring newsletter.
In September of 2017, CYN gained its first full-time Program Coordinator, whose primary role is to coordinate the Youth Partnering for Education and Employment (YPEE) program. By elevating this position from part-time to full-time, we have been able to devote more time to increasing the quality of our programming. We have expanded our professionalism workshops to include lessons on proper work attire, interview skills, and other topics crucial for the career advancement of our youth. Through our Personal Empowerment Program (PEP), we have continued to support the holistic development of vulnerable youth by fulfilling critical needs that are not covered by traditional funding sources. During the 2017 holiday season, CYN provided gifts to over 350 children and teens! We have continued to help youth through clothing, emergency groceries, and baby items for expectant young mothers. Additionally, we have provided funding for teens to gain valuable life skills through organized sports.
The youth at the Juvenile Justice Center (JJC) have continued to take part in enriching activities through our Inside-Out Program. In collaboration with the directors of the JJC and staff at the City College of San Francisco, we launched an online college course program for detained youth who have already obtained their high school diploma. Thanks to our partnership with San Francisco State University, we have also recruited more tutors to provide high school youth with individualized support during their class times.
On a fiscally responsible note: through hard work, sacrifice and donations, CYN is now running a cash flow positive budget, and we are all very proud and thankful to the donors, staff, volunteers and Board who help make this possible. When you donate to CYN, your contribution is going straight to where it matters: helping CYN kids. On June 1st we will hold our Rise Awards Ceremony to honor the successes of our outstanding youth and the contributions of our longtime donors and volunteers. We have included the details below and hope you will join us.
Warm regards, Didier Perez

James Nash On Tuesday, March 13 the youth at the JJC received a visit from nationally-touring guitarist James Nash. The youth asked questions about his career and even went on stage to perform their own original rap pieces to the tune of James's guitar. CYN is proud to continue partnering with Bread & Roses to bring uplifting and inspirational performances to the youth at the JJC!

| | San Francisco Zoo: Zoo Mobile This past Valentine's Day, City Youth Now partnered with The San Francisco Zoo to share their love of animals with the youth in the JJC. The San Francisco Zoo Mobile presented a variety of reptiles, amphibians, and animals to the classes, and tested the youth's knowledge of invasive species and climate change. Many youth seized the opportunity to step outside of their comfort zone when petting the python and hedgehog. They ended their session learning how best to protect and preserve the planet and its wildlife.

New D.A.B. Member: Zachary Franet Zak Franet is a 23 year old Bay Area native with strong roots in San Francisco. | Mindwell Founder, Anthony Williams We kicked off our fundraising this year with an informative talk by Anthony Williams on techniques for helping at-risk youth find emotional healing, and self-care strategies for youth workers. City Youth Now staff and partners have since continued to apply his teachings to enhance our work with under-served populations. We are so grateful to Anthony and to the Booker T.
