Subject: Cinemapolis Welcomes New Executive Director

HAPPY MONDAY, CINEMAPOLITANS!

Introducing Kate Donohue, the new Executive Director of Cinemapolis!

The Board and staff of Cinemapolis are excited to welcome our new Executive Director, Kate Donohue.

“The Board of Directors of Cinemapolis are honored to have Kate take the helm of our art house cinema and community theater. Her experience and vision will move us successfully into a thriving 2023 and beyond,” say Cinemapolis Board of Director’s Co-Chairs, Sue Perlgut and Enid Littman.

Kate has lived in Ithaca since 2016. She’s worked for many years in the nonprofit world and as a writer and teacher. She's excited to take on this leadership role and join the Cinemapolis community for many reasons; she is especially looking forward to having great conversations about movies!

What's your favorite Cinemapolis memory?

In February of 2021, my husband, my daughter, and I went to Cinemapolis to see Belle. It was the first time we’d gone to see a movie in the movie theater since the start of the pandemic, and the three of us were so giddy to be there. We loved the movie. One part of the story is that the mother in the film dies. I truly wish more mothers made it to the end of animated movies, but Belle is really a fascinating story. The animation is stunning, and the music is lovely. We ended up getting the soundtrack on vinyl, and it’s been in heavy rotation in our house.

What was your favorite film of last year?

Everything Everywhere All at Once. I would give this movie an award for one of the greatest moments of levity in a film. The rocks with the googly eyes made me so happy.Another truly remarkable element of the film is Ke Huy Quan’s performance.

It’s such a strange movie, but also one I think audiences can relate to in a personal way. It made me think a lot about my own struggle to stay present with the people I love in the midst of life’s distractions.

A Message From Kate...

Cinemapolis means so much to so many people. Over the years, a tremendous amount of work has been invested to create this space, to enable this cultural institution

to grow and flourish. I’m really moved by the bonds

people have formed through a shared love of film.

Becoming Executive Director is a big responsibility and also a tremendous honor. I want to carry on the work of the people who have built and sustained Cinemapolis, to support the community of people who love this theater, and to help that community grow.
