| | Greetings, Cinemapolitans! |
| Thanks to ALL who made this year's awards night party a blast! Many of the big Oscar winners are still on our screens, including Parasite, Jojo Rabbit, and Little Women! We also have two new entries to the slate arriving on Friday: - A premiere from this year's Sundance Film Festival, Downhill is the latest from Oscar winners Nat Faxon and Jim Rash. Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Will Ferrell star in this mountainside relationship comedy, a remake of Ruben Ă–stlund's award-winner, Force Majeur. Bilge Ebiri of New York Magazine says this English language take "has an awkward, American charm all its own."
- Shortlisted for this year's Best International Feature Oscar, the dark post-war romance Beanpole was my personal favorite film from last year's Toronto Film Festival. Just the second feature from budding Russian auteur, Kantemir Balagov, the film features gorgeous photography and some truly unexpected twists. It's a NY Times Critic's Pick, with Manohla Dargis calling it "a brilliantly told, deeply moving story about love — in all its manifestations, perversity and obstinacy."
Lots more to do and see this week, as well! In addition to today's screenings of Motherload and tomorrow's national event screening of After Parkland, we have several other special events on the way: |
| | WETWARE special screening with filmmaker Jay Craven and composers Jeff Claus and Judy Hyman
“Wetware” is set in a near future where people down on their luck apply for genetic modifications to take on hard jobs in slaughterhouses, toxic cleanup and deep sea mining – jobs that nobody wants to do. With business booming, programmers at Galapagos Wetware up the stakes by producing high-end prototypes, Jack and Kay, for more sensitive jobs like space travel, counterterrorism, and deep cover espionage.
Producer/director/writer Jay Craven, along with longtime music collaborators, Judy Hyman and Jeff Claus, will all be on hand for a special Q & A after this one-night-only screening! |

Our friends at Ithaca Fantastik are kicking off a weekend of special screenings of the latest from director Joe Begos with a Valentine's Day treat - acclaimed musician and composer Steve Moore (Zombi) will be on hand for an introduction and Q & A!
VFW chronicles a rough night for a group of war veterans who must defend their local post and an innocent teen against a deranged drug dealer and his relentless army of punk mutants. Mike Vanderbilt from Consequence of Sound says "VFW delivers the goods—tough-guy dialogue, memorable characters, and so much splatter— and audiences will be giddy as adolescents as the gore literally explodes on screen."
Don't miss this Fangoria Studios splatter-fest, written by Ithaca College Alumni Max Brallier and Matthew McArdle!
