| | SCHEDULE OF SHOWTIMES JAN 17 - JAN 23 ALL SHOWTIMES BELOW VALID BEGINNING FRI, JANUARY 17 |
| | Greetings, Cinemapolitans! |
| Following the big Academy Award announcements yesterday, we'll a have a combined 20 nominations on screen this weekend, thanks to the special return engagement of Pain and Glory.
We also have one spectacular new doc joining the slate on Friday: - Through archival footage and remarkable new performances, Alla Kovgan delves into the life and work of iconic choreographer Merce Cunningham in Cunningham. Sheri Linden of the Hollywood Reporter gives it a perfect score, saying: "What Kovgan's utterly transporting film does, through a thoughtful and dynamic combination of curated material and new performances, is radiate the rapturous power of dance."
Other special events fill up the rest of the week, as well: |

Matthew Warchus directs Andrew Scott (BBC’s Sherlock, Fleabag) in Noël Coward’s provocative comedy Present Laughter. As he prepares to embark on an overseas tour, star actor Garry Essendine’s colourful life is in danger of spiralling out of control. Engulfed by an escalating identity crisis as his many and various relationships compete for his attention, Garry’s few remaining days at home are a chaotic whirlwind of love, sex, panic and soul-searching.
Captured live from The Old Vic in London, Present Laughter is a giddy and surprisingly modern reflection on fame, desire and loneliness. |
| | Our friends from Ithaca Fantastik are back with the first of MANY fun January events with another installment of their Fantastik Friday series.
Justin Long and Donald Faison star in The Wave, a wild psychedelic time-travel horror comedy.
Don't miss this ONE NIGHT ONLY screening - THIS Friday at 9:30 PM!
