| | Greetings, Cinemapolitans! |
| We're starting a new week with a surprise addition of another award hopeful to our stellar slate of films: - Terrence Malick returns to form with A Hidden Life, the true story of Austrian conscientious objector, Franz Jägerstätter. Winner of the François Chalais Award and a nominee for the Palm d'Or at this year's Cannes Film Festival, IndieWire's David Ehrlich calls it "a lucid and profoundly defiant portrait of faith in crisis."
Our post-holiday calendar is also filling up with special events, including two on the way in the next week: |
| |
The Family Classics Picture Show introduces the magic of cinema to parents and kids with a year-long series of 10 fun and affordable Sunday matinees.
The series is made possible by lead sponsor The Ainslie Reilly Group at Morgan Stanley, with additional support from Mama Goose. |
| | co-presented w/ Bike Walk Tompkins
Cinemapolis and Bike Walk Tompkins continue their new monthly bike movie series with the award-winning 2012 hit, Wadjda.
Wadjda is a young girl growing up in Riyadh who enters a Koran recitation contest determined to win enough money to buy her heart’s desire: a green bicycle. In a country where bikes are seen as dangerous to the virtue of girls, cinemas are banned, and women cannot drive or vote, the story of Wadjda’s bike is the story of freedom and promise. Wadjda, the first film shot entirely in Saudi Arabia, was written and directed by Haifaa Al Mansour, Saudi Arabia’s first female filmmaker.
Visit Commons Kitchen at 124 E. State/MLK St. before the film for dinner or a snack. Saudi Arabian dishes will be offered as a special on this night. |
| | While you're planning your next week at the movies, get in soon to catch Dark Waters, Harriet, and Honey Boy. They all have their final screenings THIS Thursday, January 9th! |
