Greetings, Cinemapolitans!
A new week brings new movies. Two films debut on Friday: - Straight from Sundance, The One I Love pairs Mark Duplass (Safety Not Guaranteed) and Elisabeth Moss as a husband and wife on the brink who dive into a couples therapy exercise from the Twilight Zone. Geoff Berkshire of Variety says the powerful performance and remarkably original script "turns the idea of a two-hander upside down and inside out."
- Ty Burr of the Boston Globe calls Land Ho! "a hot spring of a movie: It fizzes a lot, and you come out feeling better than you went in." Join Colin and his ex-brother-in-Law, Mitch, as they drop everything and head off on a whirlwind tour of Iceland. Where else? Part travelogue, part male bonding therapy session, Land Ho! is an end of summer vacation worth taking!
In addition to these two new films, we also have a special event coming up this weekend.
On Sunday, September 7th at 7pm, filmmaker Matt Adams and local musician Mike Parker will be on hand for a special screening of We Cause Scenes. The film tells the extraordinary story of a group of twenty-somethings who seized the streets of New York, transforming the meaning of comedy, performance and art through forming 'Improv Everywhere,' a prank collective ten years in the making.
The screening will be followed by a Q & A with Adams, who directed the film, and Parker, who produced scoring for segments of the film.
