| | Greetings Cinemapolitans!
A long holiday weekend approaches, and with it comes two new movies on our screens: - Director Noah Baumbach (While We're Young) once again teams up with Greta Gerwig (Frances Ha) with the screwball comedy Mistress America. Gerwich, who co-wrote the script, stars as Brooke, a free-spirited foil to Tracy (Lola Kirke), her soon-to-be stepsister, as they launch into an unlikely roadtrip to what Scott Foundas of Variety calls "a long, zany setpiece so inspired and brilliantly sustained that it alone would be worth the price of admission." This wild farce is being hailed as "one of Baumbach’s warmest and purely funniest films."
- Also this weekend comes the latest from master documentarian, Alex Gibney (Armstrong Lie, Going Clear). With Steve Jobs: The Man in the Machine, Gibney probes into the genius at the heart of the Apple Computer empire. The result is a fascinating, and biting, warts-and-all portrait of what the Guardian calls a man "with the monomaniacal focus of a monk but none of the empathy of one." Don't miss this LIMITED ENGAGEMENT!

| Looking ahead to next Thursday, our series of LIVE THEATRE on the BIG screen continues with a special presentation of Julie Taymor's acclaimed production of A Midsummer Night's Dream. Taymor, famous for redefining spectacle on Broadway, brings her stunning vision to Shakespeare's classic fantasy, captured live for the screen at the Theatre for a New Audience in 2014. Don't miss TWO opportunities to see what Newsday called "A deliriously beautiful, deeply magical staging." It screens on Thursday, September 10 at 6:30 pm and again on Saturday, September 12 at 1:30 pm. |
| While you're planning your next week at the movies, be sure to get in to see Irrational Man and Ten Thousand Saints soon. They both leave THIS Thursday (September 3). |
