| | Greetings, Cinemapolitans! |
| We're squeezing TWO new openers alongside our current slate of films on Friday:
- Ethan Hawke gets behind the camera to tell the story of an unsung country great in Blaze. A hit at this year's Sundance Film Festival, Owen Gleiberman of Variety calls it "an organic slice of life — raw and untidy, deceptively aimless but always exploratory."
- Documentarian Jeremiah Zagar makes his narrative feature debut with the adaptation of Justin Torres' novel, We The Animals. Also a winner at Sundance, David Rooney of the Hollywood Reporter says it "captures the feel of the novel with uncanny precision, notably in the visceral charge and physical heat of tightly wound bodies almost constantly moving in close proximity."
We've got these new movies PLUS some special screenings on the way, including one TONIGHT: |

PRESS PLAY is back for its second season! This collaboration between the Kitchen Theatre Company and Cinemapolis puts a currently running play in conversation with a film that explores similar themes. |
|
Vanessa Kirby and Eric Kofi Abrefa feature in the cast of a brand new production of Julie. Wild and newly single, Julie throws a late night party. In the kitchen, Jean and Kristina clean up as the celebration heaves above them. Crossing the threshold, Julie initiates a power game with Jean – which rapidly descends into a savage fight for survival.

The annual fest is right around the corner, and our friends from Ithaca Fantastik are getting us ready with another installment of their Friday night series! This time around, they're celebrating the anniversary of an acclaimed anime masterpiece. PERFECT BLUE is the groundbreaking and rarely screened first film from the legendary director Satoshi Kon (Paprika, Paranoia Agent). In it, a retired pop singer turned actress’ sense of reality is shaken when she is stalked by an obsessed fan and seemingly a ghost of her past. This iconic psychological thriller has frequently been hailed as one of the most important animated films of all time.
|
| | Mark you calendars for more special events on the way in the coming week, including additional screenings in the 2018 Cine con CULTURA festival and the return of the Olive Branch Film Series! |
