| | Greetings, Cinemapolitans: |
| Fall is officially here, which means the "awards season" movies will be dropping into theaters for the next few months. That includes TWO new openers arriving on Friday: - A massive crowd-pleaser at this year's Toronto International Film Festival, Judy showcases the many talents of Academy Award winner Renée Zellweger as she takes on the role of screen legend, Judy Garland. Variety's Guy Lodge says, "Rupert Goold and...Renée Zellweger have pulled off something unusual and affecting...a biographical portrait in which performer and subject meet halfway, illuminating something of each other in the process."
- Aquarela is Viktor Kossakovsky's compelling, globe-trotting, and immersive meditation on humanity's relationship with Earth's waters. Jeanette Catsoulis names it a NY Times Critic's Pick, saying "The movie, like the elemental forces we continue to exacerbate, never explains itself. Surrender to it, though, and a narrative - of spectacle, conflict and retaliation - will eventually become clear."
AND plenty of special events are on the way, including some LIVE theater on the BIG screen on Thursday: |
| |
Gillian Anderson and Lily James lead in All About Eve, captured live from the West End in London. All About Eve tells the story of Margo Channing. Legend. True star of the theatre. The spotlight is hers, always has been. But now there’s Eve. Her biggest fan. Young, beautiful Eve. The golden girl, the girl next door. But you know all about Eve…don’t you…?
Lifting the curtain on a world of jealousy and ambition, this new production, from one of the world’s most innovative theatre directors, Ivo van Hove (NT Live: A View from the Bridge), asks why our fascination with celebrity, youth and identity never seems to get old.
