Greetings, Cinemapolitans!
It's time for some late-September house cleaning, as five old films leave us and three new arrive. Thursday will be the last day to catch Magic in the Moonlight, A Most Wanted Man, The One I Love, Tusk, and The Zero Theorem. On Friday, three festival favorites hit our screens to take their place:- Winner of Best Screenplay at this year's Sundance Film Festival, The Skeleton Twins features SNL alums Bill Hader and And Kristen Wiig as the titular siblings, and both delve into their dramatic bag of tricks for performances that critics are buzzing about. Richard Roeper of the Chicago Sun Times calls it, "a smart movie about complicated people in search of something approaching inner peace."
- Another pair of remarkable performances (and another appearance from Bill Hader!) are at the heart of The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby. Jessica Chastain and James McEvoy star in this new edit of what began as two separate feature films ("Him" and "Her") telling the rise and fall of a relationship. Roeper thinks Chastain's performance could "earn her another Oscar nomination."
- My Old Lady is the directorial debut from famed playwright Israel Horovitz. Adapted by Horovitz from his own stage play, it features a stellar, award-winning cast that includes Maggie Smith, Kevin Kline, and Kristin Scott Thomas.
From Friday, Sep 26 - Sunday, Sep 28, RTI takes up residence in theater 1 to present PHOTOGRAPH 51 by Anna Ziegler. A portrait of the British scientist Rosalind Franklin and her efforts to discover the DNA double-helix, this piece of historical fiction deftly intertwines hard science and the soft realities of 20th century sexism. Photograph 51 is directed by RTI founder, Anne Marie Cummings.
Advance tickets are available ONLINE HERE for these three performances.
With all these special screenings, some regular films will be pre-empted, so read the schedule carefully!
See you at the movies! |
