| | Greetings, Cinemapolitans: |
| Before we get into the run down of this week's new films, I have some devastating news to share. Our head concessionaire, resident Mr. Fixit, and chief snake handler, Ben Trumble, has passed on after a brief battle with cancer.
Ben squeezed many lives into his 63 years, and we’re all going to miss the tales of adventure and pearls of wisdom gleaned from his years trotting the globe with circuses, the Peace Corps, and a laundry list of other wildly varied pursuits, both academic and avocational.
A memorial is being planned for next month.

| Of course, the show must go on, and we have more movies to show, including THREE new titles arriving on Friday: - An age-old tale of fame and failure comes straight from the legendary horse's mouth In David Crosby: Remember My Name. Jordan Ruimy of the Playlist says, "Melancholy in shape, but still hopeful, Crosby’s willingness to bare naked his personal struggles on-camera makes for a truly poignant movie."
- Tyler Nilson and Mike Schwartz make their feature debut as the writing/directing duo behind The Peanut Butter Falcon. It captures the story of Zak, a young man with Down Syndrome who runs away in search of his dream to become a professional wrestler. Shia LaBeouf co-stars in this buddy/road-trip fantasy. Alan Ng of Film Threat heaps on the praise, particularly because the film "refuses to condescend to its star and tells a story that’s authentic to the life and experiences of adults with Down Syndrome."
- Making a return to Cinemapolis from last year's Ithaca Fantastik Festival, Tilman Singer's Luz is a gloriously fresh—and simultaneously retro—16mm take on the possession genre. Carlos Aguilar of the LA Times says it "shines for the calculated sensory stimulation it inflicts and its contained intent, as if it had been built to prove omnipresent evil lies unnoticed. It’ll render you unexpectedly rattled." Our friends from Ithaca Fantastik will be on hand for the Friday opening with giveaways and news of their upcoming slate!
All that PLUS special event screenings coming your way, including one on Thursday: |
