| We're rushing toward back-to-school with TWO new openers on Friday:
- Based on an unbelievably true story, BlacKkKlansman is the latest Spike Lee joint. The film, which won the Grand Prize of the Jury at this year's Cannes Film Festival, follows the efforts of Ron Stallworth, a black cop in 1970s Colorado who manages to infiltrate the Ku Klux Klan. Grabbing influences from that era's blaxploitation films, Lee crafts an activist comedy period piece that makes a clear statement about 21st century race relations. Emily Yoshida of New York Magazine calls it "stylish, hilarious, and utterly uncompromising."

- Award-winning Japanese auteur Hirokazu Koreeda returns to our screens with the gripping courtroom drama, The Third Murder. A shift from his thoughtful family portraits toward an exploration of humanity's darkest impulses, Koreeda follows the plight of Misumi, an ex-con on trial for murder who is facing the possibility of a death sentence. Peter Bradshaw of the Guardian calls it, simply, "a captivating and unknowable puzzle." Don't miss this special limited engagement.
