Greetings, Cinemapolitans!
We're entering a truly exciting August that will include the latest from Woody Allen as well as awards-worthy films from Richard Linklater and John Michael McDonagh. It kicks off with a sizzling summer thriller that features Philip Seymour Hoffman's final leading performance:
- Anton Corbijn (Control, The American) is the latest director to bring one of John le Carré's taut espionage novels to the screen. A Most Wanted Man premiered at Sundance this year to raves. A cast including Rachel McAdams, Robin Wright, and Willem Dafoe twist through a 21st century terrorism tale with Hoffman pulling the strings. Variety calls it "a meticulously plotted, steadily absorbing Hamburg-set drama."
On Saturday, we'll be hosting one of the teams from the annual Women Swimmin' event. The "Misfit Otters" have rented theater 5 for a special screening of Jaws to include silent auctions and a trivia contest. Doors will open at 3, the movie screens at 4 pm. All proceeds from this special fundraiser will benefit Hospicare and Palliative Care Services.
Two limited engagements end on Thursday, so you have just a few more chances to catch Life Itself and Venus in Fur. Don't miss them!
