Greetings, Cinemapolitans!
July is just racing by, and so are the great movies...two films leave this week to make room for two brand new ones on Friday:
- Wish I Was Here is a return to form for writer/director/star Zach Braff (Garden State). This Kickstarter Funded comedy provides a midsummer tonic from big budget tent-poles. Joe Williams of the St Louis Post-Dispatch gives this recommendation: "For audiences seeking shelter from superhero carnage, “Wish I Was Here” is a lovely place to be."
- For his latest film, Roman Polanski adapts David Ives' award winning play Venus in Fur. The off-broadway smash made its way to Broadway and around the world (including right here at the Kitchen Theatre). According to Stephen Rea of the Philadelphia Inquirer, Polanski's translation to the screen "works on so many levels, it's almost dizzying." This is a limited engagement, so catch it while you can!
Two special events coming in the next week begin on Monday, when we'll host another screening organized by our friends at FlicStart.com. The 80s classic The Princess Bride comes to Cinemapolis for a ONE NIGHT ONLY screening on Monday, July 28th at 7 pm. Get your tickets in advance at FlicStart.com
Then on Thursday, we welcome WKSG for The Artist Café in the Community screening. The event will include WSKG Public Media's Artist Café segments from seven Tompkins and Cortland county artists as well as footage from community engagement projects. With generous support from CFCU Community Credit Union, WSKG partnered up with artists Barbara Page and Tomas Black to hold workshops for residents of Longview Senior Retirement Community and youth from the Greater Ithaca Activities Center! The screening starts at 6 pm on Thursday, July 31st.
Two limited engagements end on Thursday, so you have just a few more chances to catch Night Moves and We Are the Best! Don't miss them! |
