| | SCHEDULE OF SHOWTIMES JULY 20 - JULY 26 ALL SHOWTIMES BELOW VALID BEGINNING FRI, JUL 20 |
| | Greetings, Cinemapolitans! |
| Thanks to a surprise booking, we're starting the weekend with TWO new openers on Friday:
- Hip-hop star Boots Riley makes his directorial debut with the stunningly surreal comedy Sorry to Bother You. Set in a dystopian "alternate present" the "Certified Fresh" satire stars Lakeith Stanfield (Short Term 12, Get Out) as a down on his luck telemarketer who discovers a code-switching trick to meteoric success. It's a gonzo, absurdist, and biting ride of a movie that Emily Yoshida of NY Magazine calls "a pro-union, anti-corporate, race-conscious, Silicon Valley side-eyeing tale of one man’s journey through the late-capitalist nightmare."
- Award-winning documentarian Tim Wardle unpacks a separated at birth mystery in Three Identical Strangers. Revisiting the instant 80s celebrity that followed a set of identical triplets adopted to three separate families and reunited by happenstance in their teens, the Sundance hit delves into the darker puzzle at the heart their split. The NY Times names it a Critic's Pick, with Manohla Dargis calling the true-life tale "the stuff of fraught, memorable drama."
And the week has more to offer than JUST these new openers. There are several special screenings on the way, including some live theater on the big screen THIS Thursday! |
| A young woman is driven to the unthinkable by her desperate desire to have a baby, in Simon Stone’s radical production of Lorca’s achingly powerful masterpiece. Set in contemporary London, Piper’s portrayal of a woman in her thirties struggling to conceive builds with elemental force to a staggering, shocking climax. The unmissable theatre phenomenon sold-out at the Young Vic and Off-Broadway. Critics call it ‘shatteringly powerful’ (Independent) and ‘an extraordinary theatrical triumph’ (The Times).
Yerma screens at Cinemapolis on Thursday, July 19th at 6:30 pm and again on Saturday, July 21st at 1:30 pm.
