| | Greetings, Cinemapolitans! |
| We're loading up your summer plate with a heaping helping of great movies, including THREE new openers arriving on Friday: - Jesse Eisenberg stars in Riley Stearns' darkly comic exploration of the foibles of millennial masculinity, The Art of Self-Defense. Peter DeBruge of Variety says, "This singular black comedy balances off-kilter humor with an unexpectedly thriller-esque undercurrent."
- Documentarian Timothy Greenfield-Sanders profiles one of America's living literary legends in Toni Morrison: The Pieces I Am. Centering in part on a pair of interviews with Morrison herself, Gary Goldstein of the LA Times calls the author's on-screen presence, "a singular gift that keeps on giving throughout the film’s two captivating hours."
- In The Spy Behind Home Plate, Aviva Kempner takes us back to war-era America for the untold tale of Moe Berg, the major league catcher who joined the OSS to spy on the Nazis. Kenneth Turan of the LA Times calls it an "authoritative and engrossing documentary."
And that's not all! On top of our WILDLY popular screenings of Phish philm Between Me and My Mind coming up TOMORROW night, there are plenty of special events on the way... |

Andrea Levy’s Orange Prize-winning novel Small Island comes to life in an epic new theatre adaptation. It embarks on a journey from Jamaica to Britain, through the Second World War to 1948 –the year the HMT Empire Windrush docked at Tilbury, and it follows three intricately connected stories.
Hortense yearns for a new life away from rural Jamaica, Gilbert dreams of becoming a lawyer, and Queenie longs to escape her Lincolnshire roots. Hope and humanity meet stubborn reality as the play traces the tangled history of Jamaica and the UK.
