Greetings, Cinemapolitans!
We're wrapping up a busy June with THREE new openers arriving on Friday:
  • Jakob Dylan leads us through the creation and lasting influence of the "Laurel Canyon sound" in Andrew Slater's new rock doc, Echo in the Canyon. Andy Howell of Film Threat says that it "will be watched for decades into the future as the essential document of a very specific time and place that changed music forever."

  • Joe Talbot writes and directs his feature film debut, the gorgeous Sundance winner, The Last Black Man in San Francisco. Conceived with star Jimmie Fails, the story follows a pair of working-class men and the old family home they occupy in the Bay Area.  Justin Chang of the LA Times says that it "teems and even overflows with life and love."

  • Legendary director Ron Howard returns to non-fiction to profile a legendary tenor in the operatic documentary, Pavarotti. Todd Gilchrist of the Wrap calls it "a celebration of the individual behind that façade and a reminder that it’s as much his humanity as his talent that made him a star."
...and before those debuts, you'll have ANOTHER chance to visit the opera house THIS Thursday:

Love and friendship triumph in Royal Ballet’s production of Carlos Acosta’s dazzling ballet. Cervantes’s story of the bumbling knight Don Quixote has inspired countless artistic interpretations. Marius Petipa choreographed this sparkling ballet about the encounters of the man from La Mancha and his faithful squire Sancho Panza. The story follows Don Quixote’s picaresque journey to do deeds in honour of his imaginary noble lady, Dulcinea.

Sunny, charming, funny and touching – Don Quixote is a ballet as full of uplifting emotion as it is of astonishing ballet technique. The production was filmed from the Royal Opera House in London’s Covent Garden.

Back in cinemas to celebrate the 30th anniversary of its original release, Spike Lee's groundbreaking Do The Right Thing hits our screens in this stunning new 4K restoration.

This ONE DAY ONLY special screening features a special "behind the scenes" intro created by Criterion to commemorate the lasting power and still timely message of one of Lee's greatest films.

While you're planning your next week at the movies, get in soon to catch All Is True, American Woman, The Biggest Little Farm and Halston. They all have their final screenings THIS Thursday, June 27th!

 See you at the movies!
