| | Greetings Cinemapolitans!
A new week at the movies begins on Friday with one new opener: - Debuting at last year's Cannes Film Festival, Bertrand Bonello's stylish Saint Laurent gives the famed fashion designer the biopic treatment. While it shares the flash and color of the 60s and 70s setting, according to Variety's Guy Lodge, "the film reflects more of the designer's tortured creative drive in its dark onyx surfaces; it's the slightly deranged auteur portrait that a fellow artist and iconoclast deserves."

| On Sunday at 4 pm, don't miss a chance to see the short film that just won the audience choice award at Toronto's Inside Out film festival. Local filmmaker (and Cinemapolis board member) wrote, directed and edited IN THE HOLLOW, which documents the harrowing true story of girlfriends Claudia Brenner and Rebecca Wight as they were attacked while hiking the Appalachian Trail. Combining documentary and narrative material, it tells the story of the shooting, Wight’s death, and Brenner’s desperate survival (and later transformation into an advocate for hate crime legislation in the U.S.) as she returns to the trail for the first time since the shooting. The special screening will be followed by a talkback with the filmmakers and Brenner herself. |
| Looking ahead to next Thursday, National Theatre Live returns to our screens. Ralph Fiennes plays Jack Tanner in an exhilarating reinvention of Bernard Shaw’s witty, provocative classic, Man and Superman. A romantic comedy, an epic fairytale, a fiery philosophical debate, it asks fundamental questions about how we live. Captured live from the National Theatre, Man and Superman screens at Cinemapolis at 6:30 pm on Thursday, June 18th and again at 1:30 pm on Saturday, June 20th. |
| While you plan your next week at the movies, be sure to catch Slow West soon, it leaves this Thursday (June 11).
