Greetings, Cinemapolitans!
Ithaca Festival weekend is nearly upon us. That means a load of special events at the theater (more on that below), and the return of an old favorite to our screens - Jim Jarmusch (Broken Flowers, Coffee & Cigarettes).
- With Only Lovers Left Alive, Jarmusch amps up his signature style for a tale of high culture, rock music, and-oh yeah-vampires. But don't get hung up on the monsters, the real meat of the story is all about the relationship between the film's stars Tilda Swinton and Tom Hiddleston. Film.com's Jordan Hoffman calls it "a deeply affecting tale about the addiction to bad love and its consequences."
In addition to five held over films, the weekend brings a special screening of the latest from local film maker, Chris Holmes. On Saturday at 2 pm, Holmes will be on hand for the Ithaca Premiere of Yahweh's Sea Glass. Tickets for the event are available through Eventbrite.
Also on Saturday, Finger Lakes Running & Triathlon Company will host one of two North American stops of the Trails In Motion Film Festival. The screenings will feature special guests Matt Flaherty (USATF 50 Mile Road Champion and Salomon athlete), Krissy Moehl (Ulra diva and Patagonia athlete), and Stefan Beaumont (Film maker of Trails and Tribulations). The event kicks off at 2 pm on Saturday. Advance tickets are on sale at the Trails in Motion site.
And finally, on Sunday, the spotlight falls on more local film makers, as Ithaca Fest takes up residence in theater 5 for the Ithaca Festival Film Festival And 72-Hour Film Festival. From 1:00pm-5:30pm films from Sue Perlgut, Rachel Ferro, Austin Bunn and Bob Hazen, Becky Lane, and Deborah Hoard will screen, with talk back sessions after each.
That's followed at 7pm by screenings of entries from the first 72-Hour Film Festival. Interested in creating a short for the contest? Entry information available at IthacaFestival.org!
We'll be saying goodbye to Finding Vivian Maier to make room for all these activities. It ends on Thursday! |
