| | Greetings, Cinemapolitans! |
| We head into the long holiday weekend with TWO new films: - Ralph Fiennes steps behind the camera to direct the true story of Rudolph Nueryev's historic defection to the west in The White Crow. Peter of DeBruge of Variety says it's "Lovely, elegant, and curiously opaque ... The film’s many ballet scenes are stunning,"
- Award-winning Indian auteur Ritesh Batra (The Lunchbox) returns to our screens with the touching Mumbai-set romance, Photograph. Gary Goldstein of the LA Times calls it "A lovely, charming and gently transporting journey."
On top of the new titles, we have some special event screenings coming up, including a new LIVE THEATRE event coming THIS Thursday: |
| | This Spring, productions of opera and ballet from the Royal Opera House will join our live theatre on screen presentations!
From the thrill of unexpected romance to a heartbreaking reconciliation that comes too late – Verdi’s La traviata is one of the most popular of all operas. Alfredo falls in love in with the courtesan Violetta in glamorous Paris society, but underneath the surface run darker undercurrents, leading to a tragic ending.
Richard Eyre’s production for The Royal Opera brings out all the emotional colour, from the giddy discovery of love, through painful confrontation to the inevitable conclusion.

Our friends from Ithaca Fantastik are back with another installment of their Fantastik Friday series.
This week marks the return of RELAXER, a big hit at last year's festival. Written and directed by Joel Potrykus, this period piece set during the looming Y2K crisis focuses on Abbie, a couch potato who must conquer a video game before the world ends.
Kyle Kohner of the Playlist says "Relaxer is Potrykus’ most discomforting and unforgettable experience to date."
