| | Greetings, Cinemapolitans! |
| May continues with THREE acclaimed new titles opening this Friday:
- Hero. Icon. Dissenter. Supreme Court Justice Ruther Bader Ginsburg takes center stage in Julie Cohen and Betsy West's award winning documentary, RBG. Dahlia Lithwick of Slate says it's "more than just the...story of who Ginsburg was and who she has become. It’s also a monument to the formal written legal legacy that transcends her own life story and changed a nation."
- Oscar winner Sebastián Lelio (A Fantastic Woman) is back on our screen with his English-language debut, Disobedience. Set amongst a strict Orthodox community, the film stars Rachel Weisz and Rachel McAdams as a pair of long-lost friends whose deeper attraction rekindles and causes turmoil within a tight-knit family. David Rooney of the Hollywood Reporter calls it "a deeply felt drama that exerts a powerful grip."
- German auteur Wim Wenders (Wings of Desire, The Salt of the Earth) returns to non-fiction film with an exclusive look at the pontiff for the 21st century in Pope Francis: A Man of His Word. Built around a series of Errol Morris-style interviews with the Pope, the film showcases his global humanitarian efforts, comparing him to his namesake, Francis of Assisi. Kate Erbland of IndieWire says that "even audiences that are in no way religious will likely be quite moved by the raw power of devotion — both from his followers and the pope himself."
On top of these new openers, the weekend is also ALIVE with a special Sunday event: |
|
The Family Classics Picture Show introduces the magic of cinema to parents and kids with a year-long series of 10 fun and affordable Sunday matinees. The program continues its 4th year on Sunday, May 20th at 2pm with a screening of The Sound of Music.
Discounted tickets for these special Sunday events are just $3 for adults, $2 for kids, or $10 for an entire family.
The series is made possible by lead sponsor The Ainslie Reilly Group at Morgan Stanley, with additional support from Mama Goose.
