| | SCHEDULE OF SHOWTIMES MAY 11 - MAY 17 ALL SHOWTIMES BELOW VALID BEGINNING FRI, MAY 11 |
| | Greetings, Cinemapolitans! |
| May continues with FIVE very limited engagements opening this Friday. See these films while you can!
- A pop culture icon with local roots is in the spotlight in Grace Jones: Bloodlight and Bami. It's a NY Times Critic's Pick, with Wesley Morris calling it a "feat of portraiture and a restoration of humanity." On Friday, May 11 at 6:45, we'll kick off a Grace Jones Celebration with an intro from Grace's nephew, Spencer Jackson (a/k/a Kokoa Chanel) and a post-screening after party show featuring Kokoa at Lot 10! See the movie and the show for just $15!
- Foxtrot, which won eight of last year's Israeli Academy Awards, is a gripping portrait of life in wartime. Jay Weissberg of Variety says it's "Brilliantly constructed with a visual audacity that serves the subject rather than the other way around...award-winning filmmaking on a fearless level."
- Master animator Masaaki Yuasa returns to our screens with Lu Over the Wall, a wildly colorful mermaid romp. Derek Smith of Slant says that Yuasa's "imagination runs so wild that it becomes impossible to resist."
- Belgian thriller Racer and The Jailbird unites Matthias Schoenaerts (Far from the Madding Crowd) and Adèle Exarchopoulos (Blue is the Warmest Color) as star-crossed lovers in Brussels' seedy crime world. The LA Times praises the leads "who are both almost frighteningly believable as lovers willing to risk everything to stay together."
- French filmmaker Coralie Fargeat makes her feature debut with the gritty and grisly horror/action mash-up, Revenge. David Rooney of the Hollywood Reporter calls is a "thriller both tautly controlled and wildly over-the-top, executed with flashy style, sly visual humor and a subversive feminist sensibility."
In addition to these new titles, we have several special events on the way, including one TODAY: |
