| | Greetings, Cinemapolitans! |
| It's a packed schedule coming up, with FOUR new openers arriving on Friday: - Academy Award winning director Sebastián Lelio is back with Julianne Moore as Gloria Bell. Variety's Peter DeBruge calls it "one of the great female-led films of the 21st century."
- German director Christian Petzold (Phoenix) returns to stolen/mistaken identity territory with Transit. David Edelstein of New York Magazine says, "Once Transit’s bitterly ironic vision takes hold, it eats into the mind."
- Hungarian animator Milorad Krstic brings us the wild art-heist romp, Ruben Brandt, Collector. Robert Abele of the L.A. Times calls is "an acrobatic, larkish globetrotting adventure about paintings and psychotherapy that defies easy categorization."
- And, for a special LIMITED ENGAGEMENT, Carol Morley writes and directs the neo-noir crime thriller Out of Blue. Justin Chang of the LA Times says she "sustains a vibe of low-key Lynchian weirdness throughout."
But before we get to the weekend, there are some great special events on the way: |
| | w/ intro on "Killer Plants" by Dr. Fay-Wei Li of the Boyce Thompson Institute
Cinemapolis is proud to be among the 36 independent cinemas selected to be part of this year's Science on Screen® program. Science on Screen events match classic, cult, science fiction, and nonfiction films with lively presentations by experts on specific scientific, technological, or medical issues raised by each film.
|
| Our season of events continues with LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS! The screening will kick off with “Killer Plants," a presentation by Dr. Fay-Wei Li of the Boyce Thompson Institute. He'll introduce some of Earth’s killer plants, covering the evolution of toxicity and even predatory behavior in a variety of flora. Science on Screen® is an initiative of the Coolidge Corner Theatre. With major support from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation.

This visceral new production about the limits of power is directed by Joe Hill-Gibbins, whose previous plays include Little Revolution at the Almeida and Absolute Hell at the National Theatre. Richard II, King of England, is irresponsible, foolish and vain. His weak leadership sends his kingdom into disarray and his court into uproar. Seeing no other option but to seize power, the ambitious Bolingbroke challenges the throne and the king’s divine right to rule.
