| | Greetings, Cinemapolitans! |
| Join us in celebrating St. Patrick's Day weekend with TWO new openers: - French provocateur Gaspar Noé hits the club with the mesmerizing dance hall hallucination, Climax. The film follows a troupe of dancers whose all-night rehearsal descends into madness as they realize they've all been dosed. Todd McCarthy of the Hollywood Reporter says that Noé "has made a film that’s seductive in its rhythms and bold visualization of his young dancers’ sometimes beautiful, other times brutal somatic expressiveness."
- Oscar winner Barry Jenkins calls This Magnificent Cake! his favorite film of 2018. Who are we to argue? This quirky stop-motion film by Belgian animators Emma De Swaef and Marc James Roels showcases the ills of colonialism in 19th century Belgium-occupied Congo. Don't miss this limited engagement - the film is presented with two other animated shorts: Oh Willy & The Burden.
Before we get to the weekend, there's a special community rental event coming up: |
| | Live Reading & Film Event With the Women’s March and start of the national #MeToo movement in 2017, women are increasingly finding their voices as survivors, activists, and advocates.
Cornell Professor and Poet Lyrae Van Clief-Stefanon and community partner/filmmaker Sue Perlgut worked with Cornell students and community women to document their participation in workshops exploring trauma, survival, and Joy. Perlgut filmed their creative output and interviewed them to create a multimedia film/reading.
These live screening events are sponsored by Carol Bushberg Real Estate. Tickets are $12 for the general public and $8 for seniors and students.
