| | Greetings, Cinemapolitans! |
| First, a big thanks to everyone who made our annual Awards Night Party a huge success on Sunday! More info on the big winners from the party will be coming soon, but in the meantime, we have THREE new films opening on Friday: - Irish auteur Neil Jordan returns to our screens with the psychological thriller, Greta. Isabelle Huppert stars in the title role as a widowed pianist with less than good intentions for a good samaritan played by Chloë Grace Moretz. To give more away would spoil the horror surprises at the heart of this fun turn to genre fare from Jordan. Steve Pond of The Wrap advises that you "embrace it for the bloody hoot it is."
- An Oscar nominee for Best Foreign Language Film, Never Look Away is the latest from German master Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck (The Lives of Others). In it, he returns to post-war Germany to explore the shadows of the Nazi regime that remain and haunt a developing young artist. Demetrios Matheou of Screen Daily calls it a "moving, thoughtful drama about the correlations between personal experience, politics and art."
- The Invisibles is the powerful first feature from German director Claus Räfle. Blending first-person interviews with living survivors alongside dramatic re-enactments of their tales, the film tells the harrowing stories of four young Jews that were among the 1,700 that lived secretly in Berlin throughout the War. Elizabeth Weitzman of the The Wrap calls is "a powerful testament to the remarkable courage of those forced into heroism, and to the exceptional strength of those who chose it freely."

Friends of Stewart Park return to host Wild About Stewart Park, its 3rd annual benefit celebration of local photographers and musicians in support of ongoing revitalization efforts in Stewart Park.
Experience stellar nature images by accomplished Ithaca photographers, presented on the big-screen, accompanied by live string music, as well as commentary from the photographers. This one-of-a-kind multimedia experience highlights and celebrates the landscape and inhabitants of Stewart Park and beyond, as well as these artists who document the beauty of our natural world.
This year’s benefit features captivating bird photography by Sarah Blodgett and Rachel Hogancamp, and beautiful images of native plants and landscapes by photographer Dan Segal of the Plantsmen Nursery. Each artist will introduce their collections as the images take center-stage on the big screen. Musical accompaniment is by Tim Ball, Tom Hodgson and FSP Executive Director Rick Manning.
Tickets to the “Wild About Stewart Park” Benefit may be purchased online at Brown Paper Tickets, or at the door. Sliding scale ticket prices begin at $15, with a suggested donation of $25. |
