Greetings, Cinemapolitans!
According to the Ithaca Voice, we just had the coldest February in Ithaca's history, so this week's trip to a balmy locale couldn't come at a better time: - The gang is back and looking to expand in the Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel. Featuring a star-studded cast that includes two "dames," but no sirs (can't Bill Nighy get his knighthood, already?!), this lighter than air sequel finds Sonny and Muriel planning to start a chain of hotels while organizing Sonny's imminent and complicated wedding. Director John Madden returns to create what Empire calls "an entirely charming extension of the most unlikely franchise, gently handling big themes and dissolving cynicism with laughter."
Our tradition of live theater events on screen continues this weekend with the launch of a new season of productions from Shakespeare’s Globe! Shakespeare’s Globe on Screen provides audiences the opportunity to experience the world's most famous stage as if they were there in person, and our season opens with Twelfth Night, an all-male Globe 'Original Practices' production that aims to replicate as closely as possible the music, costumes, dance and scenery of Shakespeare’s time. Mark Rylance, winner of multiple Olivier and Tony Awards, and Stephen Fry star in the production, directed by Tim Carroll. Captured live in 2012, Twelfth Night screens at Cinemapolis at 2:00 pm on Sunday, March 8th and again at 7:00 pm on Wednesday, March 11th.
