| | Greetings, Cinemapolitans! |
| We're ringing in the new year (and heading toward the Golden Globes) with a full slate of award hopefuls, and add ONE new opener to the mix on Friday: - Oscar winner Barry Jenkins returns to our screens with a gorgeous follow up to Moonlight. If Beale Street Could Talk is adapted from the acclaimed novel by James Baldwin and follows the struggles of Fonny and Tish, a young couple in 1970s Harlem. Richard Roeper of the Chicago Sun Times says it's "a timeless romance, a family drama, a legal thriller and a poignant social commentary. A great American novel has been turned into a great American film."
In addition to this collection of critics' picks, we have some special event screenings on the way as well: |

NewsTalk WHCU is partnering with Cinemapolis to present the Legends and Legacies Film Series. It continues Sunday at 2 pm with the Oscar-winning classic, The Miracle Worker. The critically acclaimed film features Anne Bancroft and Patty Duke playing the roles of Anne Sullivan and Helen Keller. Screened in conjunction with National Braille Literacy Month, the film focuses on the efforts of those who deal with visual disorders and overcome the barriers of daily life.
For additional perspective, Bernice Bird from the National Federation of the Blind of New York State will make a presentation before the movie begins.

| | As we begin a new year, I'd like to thank all of you Cinemapolitans that made 2018 our best year ever. Nearly 85,000 ticketed attendees came through our doors last year, showing us just how important the art of film is to this community. I look forward to celebrating that milestone at our "And the Winner Is..." party in February and in the coming weeks with each of you as we dig into another exciting season of award-winning films.
