Greetings Cinemapolitans!

It's a big weekend at the movies, and we have plenty of stars of our own right here at the 'Mop, with two new films opening on Friday:
  • Documentarian Amy Berg (Deliver Us From Evil) digs deep into the all too brief history of one of rock's founding mothers with Janis: Little Girl Blue.  It's an absorbing portrait of Joplin that, according to Time Out New York, "gets so much right, it feels like a major act of cultural excavation."

  • Also opening for a limited engagement comes the spellbinding new film from performance artist Laurie Anderson. With Heart of a Dog, Anderson explores deep topics like mortality and memory, all through the lens of the love of a pet. As NY Magazine puts it, "Anderson says that as a child she dreamed of making something that had never been made before, and, with the help of some gifted artists and editors and camera-people, she has done it again - with bells on."
With the holidays in full swing, we have THREE ways to make the season bright this year:
  • Giving the gift of the movies is simple again this year, with our Holiday Gift Pack cards. Each card is good for FIVE regular admissions and FIVE small popcorns. All that for just $55. Pick up a couple at the box office today!

  • Even easier is a Cinemapolis Gift Card. Available in any denomination, you can now purchase them ONLINE at Cinemapolis.org

  • And for those looking for a festive cinema experience, the Christmas Day Benefit Brunch at the Movies is back by popular demand. Reserve your seats now for this annual tradition that includes a thai buffet and a chance to be the one of our five films (including the first screenings of The Danish Girl and Steve Jobs). Tickets are just $50 and can be purchased onlineGet them soon - only 70 will be sold!
PLEASE NOTE: This week's schedule has a hole in it - we'll once again be closed on Monday, December 21st for our annual staff appreciation day. We re-open on Tuesday for another 365 days of continuous operation (it's a leap year)!
 See you at the movies!
