| | Greetings, Cinemapolitans!
The holiday season rush of great films continues with TWO new openers joining our slate on Friday: |
| - Frances McDormand heads up an all-star cast in Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, the latest pitch-black comedy from writer/director Martin McDonagh (In Bruges). McDormand plays Mildred, a mother attempting to shame the titular town's police force into solving her daughter's year-old murder case. A favorite at this year's Venice Film Festival, Xan Brooks of the Guardian calls it "a bold and showboating affair, robustly drawn and richly written; a violent carnival of small-town American life. Yet it has a big, beating heart, even a rough-edged compassion for its brawling inhabitants."
- Documentarian Margaret Betts makes her narrative feature debut with Novitiate, a period drama set at a convent during the tumultuous days of Vatican II. Featuring powerhouse performances from Oscar winner Melissa Leo and newcomer Margaret Qualley, the film won Betts the Breakthrough Director award at this year's Sundance Film Festival. Kate Erbland of IndieWire says it's "both introspective and entertaining, Betts never forgets that her young nuns are still teenage girls, and Novitiate rings as true as any other film about coming of age."
On top of these new movies, we also have a bunch of special event screenings, including one even before the weekend on THIS Thursday: |
| Thu, Nov 30 @ 7:00 pm FREE SCREENING World AIDS day is an important day not only to remember those we have lost to HIV/AIDS but also to celebrate and learn about the amazing advancements in prevention and treatment options that we have made! There will be resources and information on local HIV/AIDS prevention efforts in the lobby prior to this screening. PPSFL will be accepting donations for their Transgender Health Fund. |
| Fri, Dec 1 @ 9:30 pm Our friends from Ithaca Fantastik have recovered from this year's fest and are returning with one more Friday installment before the year's end. This time, it's the wild and wooly Canadian horror-comedy sequel, Another Wolfcop. This homage to direct-to-VHS horror of the 80s will leave you howling! |
