| | Greetings, Cinemapolitans!
Awards season is in full swing, and that means adding TWO new nominees to our already full slate this weekend, so please pay close attention to the new limited showtimes for some of the favorites still on the list: - Italian director Luca Guadagnino (A Bigger Splash) has partnered with screenwriter James Ivory (A Room with a View) for the lush and romantic adaptation of André Aciman's novel, Call Me By Your Name. Starring Timothée Chalamet and Armie Hammer as a pair of potentially star-crossed lovers, it's a film that David Erlich of IndieWire calls a "gut-wrenchingly wistful portrait of two people trying to find themselves before it’s too late."
- Paul Thomas Anderson once again partners with Daniel Day-Lewis for Phantom Thread, a film that the actor promises will be his last. Set in the world of mid-20th century high fashion, it's a romance that Eric Kohn of IndieWire calls "an evocative period drama and a magical fable about lonely, solipsistic people finding solace in their mutual sense of alienation."
In addition to these new films, there are several special events on the way in the coming week, too! |

Our friends from Ithaca Fantastik are starting the new year with the first of two Friday installments in January. This time, it's frenetic filmmaker Brian Taylor's latest wild adventure, Mom and Dad. Starring Nicolas Cage and Selma Blair as the titular pair of mysteriously crazed parents, it's being called a "twisted remake of Home Alone on bath salts." Don't miss this one night only screening on Friday, January 19 at 9:30! |

Rory Kinnear is Marx and Oliver Chris is Engels, in Young Marx, a new comedy written by Richard Bean and Clive Coleman. Broadcast live from The Bridge Theatre, London, the production is directed by Nicholas Hytner and reunites the creative team behind Broadway and West End hit comedy One Man, Two Guvnors. 1850, and Europe’s most feared terrorist is hiding in Dean Street, Soho. Broke, restless and horny, the thirty-two-year-old revolutionary is a frothing combination of intellectual brilliance, invective, satiric wit, and child-like emotional illiteracy. Creditors, spies, rival revolutionary factions and prospective seducers of his beautiful wife all circle like vultures. His writing blocked, his marriage dying, his friend Engels in despair at his wasted genius, his only hope is a job on the railway. Young Marx screens at Cinemapolis on Thursday, January 25 at 6:30 pm and again on Saturday, January 27th at 1:30 pm. |
