| | Greetings, Cinemapolitans: |
| Before we get into the coming week's exciting line-up, just one note. Award season has arrived, and we've had MANY sold-out screenings over the past weeks. We recommend arriving 30 minutes prior to showtime to avoid lines at the box office and to guarantee a seat at your desired show.
With that out of the way, we're excited to welcome a new title this Friday for a special limited engagement: - On the big screen BEFORE you can stream it - Martin Scorsese's The Irishman is an epic mob tale traversing generations of organized crime. It features a star-studded cast of Scorsese staples like Robert De Niro, Joe Pesci, and Harvey Keitel, as well as a first collaboration with Al Pacino. It's being hailed as a masterpiece, and A.O. Scott of the NY Times names it a Critic's Pick, saying it "looks back on...a legacy of violence and waste, of men too hard and mean to be mourned. A monument is a complicated thing. This one is big and solid — and also surprisingly, surpassingly delicate."
There's also a pack of special event screenings on the way, including a special filmmaker appearance TONIGHT: |
| | featuring Q & A w/ producer Jeff Cohen
This investigative and persuasive documentary blends the insights of philosophers, authors and journalists with the experiences of citizens of the Rust Belt in the U.S. Midwest, where the steel industry once flourished, but where closures and outsourcing have left urban areas desolate and hopeless.
Journalist Chris Hedges, argues that the crisis predates Donald Trump’s election by many years. Decades ago, U.S. democracy began selling its soul to big corporations. Lobbyists and corporatism took control in Washington, gradually undermining the will of the people. Journalist Naomi Klein recently described Trump’s administration as a “corporate coup d’état”. Hedges and Ralston Saul argue that the real coup took place long before.
The screening will be followed by a live Q & A with the film's producer, Jeff Cohen. |

A feuding fairy King and Queen of the forest cross paths with four runaway lovers and a troupe of actors trying to rehearse a play. As their dispute grows, the magical royal couple meddle with mortal lives leading to love triangles, mistaken identities and transformations… with hilarious, but dark consequences.
Shakespeare’s most famous romantic comedy has been captured live from the Bridge Theatre in London. Gwendoline Christie (Game of Thrones), Oliver Chris (GreenWing, NT Live: Young Marx), David Moorst (NT Live: Allelujah!) and Hammed Animashaun (The Barber Shop Chronicles) lead the cast as Titania, Oberon, Puck and Bottom. Directed by Nicholas Hytner, this production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream will build on the success of his immersive staging of Julius Caesar (NT Live 2018). The Bridge Theatre becomes a forest –a dream world of flying fairies, contagious fogs and moonlight revels, surrounded by a roving audience following the action on foot. |
| | While you're planning your next week at the movies, get in soon to catch Fantastic Fungi. It has its last screenings THIS Thursday, November 21st.
