| | Greetings Cinemapolitans!
The 5th Annual Ithaca Fantastik festival is about to begin, so PLEASE NOTE the changes to our upcoming schedule. Along with the fest come TWO new openers starting on Friday: - Kelly Reichard (Meek's Cutoff, Wendy and Lucy) returns to our screens with another beautiful slow-burn of a film. Certain Women is a triptych of remarkably quiet performances, set against a massive Montana landscape. Guy Lodge of Variety calls it "a peculiarly riveting examination of the lives lived when even their owners aren’t looking."
- Based on the tragic true story of TV newscaster Christine Chubbuck, Christine is a launching pad for soon-to-be-household-name Rebecca Hall. Director Antonio Campos has crafted an eerie look at TV journalism's dark turn in the 1970s, but it's Hall's performance that has critics raving. Nigel Smith of the Guardian says she's "the perfect actor to convey Chubbuck’s internal struggle in a manner that’s devastating."
