| | Greetings, Cinemapolitans!
We're still in the middle of the 6th Annual Ithaca Fantastik Festival, but that doesn't mean we can't add more movies to the slate— TWO new openers are on the way this Friday (and a special ONE DAY screening next Thursday): |
| - The Killing of a Sacred Deer is Greek auteur Yorgos Lanthimos' follow up to The Lobster. A big winner at this year's Cannes Film Festival, this dark thriller features stand out performances from Colin Farrell and Nicole Kidman, as a married couple whose family life is upended by the introduction of a teenage boy with ulterior motives. David Rooney of the Hollywood Reporter says the "impressive rigor of its craft, the skillfully subdued intensity of the acting and the startling originality of the story will make the film unmissable for anyone who cares about bold filmmaking."
- Domhnall Gleason stars as beloved author A.A. Milne in Goodbye Christopher Robin. Directed by Simon Curtis (Woman in Gold), the film delves into the father-son relationship that inspired Milne's post-war stories, as well as the cost of the fame that they brought to the family. James Mottram of Total Film says, "More than just another author/creation story, Curtis’ film has things to say about celebrity, wartime and family."
Be sure to pay close attention to the coming week’s schedule of showtimes, because squeezing a 10 day film festival into our space means there will be SOME changes to the regular schedule! |

Ithaca Fantastik (IF) is unleashing its sixth annual film festival Nov. 3–12 at Cinemapolis and all around downtown Ithaca. With 37 films from 20 countries, the IF team promises this year’s festival will be a Fantastik ride—so buckle up! In addition to two weekends of curated horror, fantasy, sci-fi, bizarre, and fun-as-hell films, there’s also this year's retrospective, ITALIANO PSICHEDELIKO, which captures late 60s to late 70s Italy in all its erotic explosiveness with the visual sparkle of pop art. |
| Frederick Wiseman’s latest film goes behind the scenes of one of the greatest knowledge institutions in the world and reveals it as a place of welcome, cultural exchange and learning. With 92 branches throughout Manhattan, the Bronx and Staten Island, the library is committed to being a resource for all the inhabitants of this multifaceted and cosmopolitan city, and beyond. The New York Public Library exemplifies the deeply rooted American belief in the individual’s right to know and be informed. |
| | While you're planning your next week at the movies, be sure to get in soon to catch Lucky. It has its last screenings THIS Thursday, November 9th!
